Continuous Cooling Curve Diagrams of Isotactic-Polypropylene/Polyethylene Blends: Mutual Nucleating Effects under Fast Cooling Conditions

چکیده
Crystallization kinetics under processing-relevant cooling conditions of polyethylene/isotactic-polypropylene (PE/PP) blends, with compositions similar to real recycled was investigated through an in situ temperature monitoring technique. Continuous Cooling Curve (CCC) diagrams a large crystallization range were obtained for the two phases, thanks new apparatus allowing fast quenching polymer samples. Using this technique, we found “inversion point” order polymers, which arises from difference rates between PP and PE increasing rate. The polymers at low rates, that is, before inversion point, can be tuned by employing non-nucleated or nucleated PP. In particular, crystallizes after above 0.5 °C/s, while solidifies until 80 °C/s. Interestingly, mutual nucleating effects, previously shown only ideal systems such as thin-layered films, interface correlation point. During cooling, phase first enhance onset second lower crystallizing nucleation interface. Ex morphological wide-angle X-ray diffraction experiments confirmed validity results CCC diagrams. Our approach characterize semicrystalline blends facilitates tailoring their properties relevant processing. Moreover, importance knowing controlling type components recycling is demonstrated, given variety behaviors attainable.

Cellular automaton simulation of microstructure evolution during austenite decomposition under continuous cooling conditions
A two-dimensional diffusion based model is developed to describe transformation of austenite into ferrite and pearlite under continuous cooling conditions. The nucleation of ferrite is assumed to occur over grain boundaries and the nucleation of pearlite is assumed to be taking place all over the grain and at growing ferrite–austenite interfaces, when the composition and temperature conditions ...
متن کاملStrong Bainitic Steels by Continuous Cooling Transformation
Using metallurgical models, three steels were designed to obtain carbide-free bainitic structures in the as-rolled condition. Experimental castings were hot-rolled in a pilot mill and their austenite decomposition kinetics were measured using dilatometry. Tensile and Charpy impact properties were measured and the microstructures were characterised using X-ray diffractometry, optical and scannin...
متن کاملExtremely Fine Pearlite by Continuous Cooling Transformation
An extremely fine, fully pearlitic structure with an interlamellar spacing 30–50 nm has been obtained during continuous cooling transformation at a rate as low as 0.1 C s, of the steel that is normally used to produce nanostructured bainite. The solutes cobalt and aluminium have been added to accelerate the rate of reaction and reduce the interlamellar spacing by increasing the free energy of t...
متن کاملFast Cooling Techniques for Gravitational Wave Antennas
The resonant-mass technique for the detection of Gravitational Waves may involve, in the near future, the cooling of very large masses (about 100 tons) from room temperature (300K) to extreme cryogenic temperatures (20mK). To cool these detectors down to cryogenic temperatures an exchange gas (helium) is used, and the heat is removed from the antenna to the cold reservoir by thermal conduction ...
متن کاملFast Demand Response with Cooling Devices Semester
Share of generating units from renewable energy sources is constantly increasing and introducing stochastic nature into the system. This results in undesirable fluctuations of mains frequency and thus, a rising need for frequency regulation services. Providing sufficient power reserves presents a complicated task and usually requires special types of fast response power plants running part-load...
